When we moved to Chatham in 1993 we hired Steve to cut our grass. As Steve’s business grew so did our needs, particularly during the 4 1/2 years we lived outside the country while retaining ownership of our Chatham home. We had the trust and confidence in Simonfay to ask them to take care of the entire property in our absence and we were not disappointed. We have also completed several large projects with the Simonfay team during our 19 year relationship. One particular project required lots of preparation and engineering input, including obtaining the permits needed to meet the zoning laws of the Borough. The project incorporated a small private “escape” behind our home that includes a water element, which Bill Dennis and crew brought to fruition. With Bill overseeing the project, I knew we were in good, capable hands. Bill typifies the people that work for Simonfay. We know that when we use Simonfay Landscaping their research will be thorough, they will be accommodating to our input and ideas, and all the employees will be a pleasure to have around. We undertook a major demolition of an existing raised bluestone patio and replaced it with a new paver patio with fire table, seat wall, full bar / kitchen and built-in grill. We could not have been happier working with Steve Simonfay and his team.
From the very beginning in the early planning and design stages, Steve came out to the house weekly and talked me through everything. He was clear and committed both in terms of how long it would take as well as costs. His crew was always fully staffed, they were on-time every day and worked until late in the day. All subcontractors were doing what they were supposed to be doing in the right sequence of things so that our project was delivered exactly on the schedule Steve said it would be (which exceeded my expectations!). He handled the plumbers, electricians, the carpenter, the irrigation teams, the masons, the sod company, and managed all the landscaping of course. There were zero delays start to finish and no time was wasted. Additionally as the project moved along Steve made positive suggestions/changes that improved the project and also saved money. Steve’s colleague Lindsey was super helpful in a lot of the selecting of materials, appliances and then just making sure all the pieces went together acting as Steve’s right hand. Danilo, Steve’s foreman on the job was an absolute machine, both heavily involved in the actual work and directing his team perfectly according to the design. And to top it off Steve is a hands-on owner/manager, personally coming on site to oversee the project multiple times a day every day until it was done. Communication was 100pct seamless throughout the entire project.
Overall, I was beyond impressed with Steve and his company, and the way it came out I couldn’t be happier. I would 100pct recommend Simonfay Landscape Services for any future project. Really super guy and really super company.
